Butterfly House

Experience the wonderful transformation of butterflies
In the Butterfly House, colorful butterflies flutter among passion flowers and pineapple plants. This greenhouse is part of the Palm House complex, where we have created an enchanting setting for you to step into and experience the life and transformation of butterflies up close.

Butterflies are beautiful and amazing, capturing the enthusiasm of many. Their life cycle has fascinated artists, writers, and scientists since antiquity. They are prime examples of millions of years of evolutionary history in interaction with plants and other animal species, where appearance and behavior are the results of constant adaptation to their surroundings.

As indicator species, butterflies provide clear information on how even the smallest changes in living conditions, such as minor temperature fluctuations and lack of access to food, affect populations. Butterflies are highly sensitive and thus directly alert us if something is wrong with nature.

In many parts of the world, butterfly populations are plummeting dramatically, and we are losing countless animal and plant species at an alarming rate. Humans play a central role in this context, and action must be taken.

With around 10,000 plant species, the Botanical Garden is a biodiversity hotspot; an open and living laboratory. This historic garden is the perfect place to use living nature to convey knowledge, enthusiasm, and understanding of the world around us.

In recent years, the Botanical Garden has undergone an enhancement in education and experience, with the Butterfly House being one of the latest initiatives.
