Marie Lund in the Palm House

Art installation
8th November 2023 – 3rd November 2024
Discover art and nature in harmony through artist Marie Lund's site-specific work 'bldngs' in the Palm House. Five doubly curved copper sculptures hang from the greenhouse's cast iron columns, creating an encounter between palm leaves, architecture, and you, the viewer. The artwork is accompanied by writer Laura McLean-Ferris' text 'How to Survive in a Bell Jar'.

Artist Marie Lund creates her works by transforming natural materials into abstract sculptural structures. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, she has since exhibited worldwide. Marie Lund's art is based on the idea that architectural spaces, objects, and bodies are interdependent and that sculptures have the potential to activate their surroundings rather than merely being autonomous objects within a space.

Likely, some may overlook the sculptures or mistake them for part of the functional architecture and the objects contributing to maintaining the tropical indoor climate, as their presence in the space is so subtly elegant. On the other hand, the installation is insistent and stands out powerfully due to its materiality; the shiny copper is shaped so organically that it is hard not to be captivated.
