Botany for Children

The Botanical Garden is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Hooray! Join us in the world of botany as we invite children of all ages to free nature activities all summer long.

In the middle of the Botanical Garden's living plant collection, you can meet the museum's educators this summer as we invite children and their adults to activities in our lovely Educational Greenhouse and outdoor pavilions. Drop by and learn more about botany, get your hands dirty, and handle plants.

  • Make your own pot out of newspaper, plant a cutting, or sow your own seeds. You can take your finished product home along with instructions to grow botany in your windowsill, garden, or balcony box. Once you've planted your seeds, you will get a Ramasjang Redder diploma, as you are helping to feed the hungry bats – and more flowers attract more insects for the bat to eat.

  • Create your very own herbarium sheet with pressed plants. You can take the sheet home along with instructions on how to press and dry it at home.

  • Go on a plant, bird, or butterfly tour in the Botanical Garden on your own with borrowed charts.

  • Colour beautiful drawings of flowers, birds, and butterflies in the Educational Greenhouse or draw flowers freehand.

About the Botanical Garden – a living museum

The Botanical Garden is a green oasis in the heart of Copenhagen, inviting immersion into the world of nature. Established in 1874 based on a garden plan by Landscape Gardener H.A. Flindt, the garden was renovated in 2012 by Landscape Architect Jens Hendeliowitz, known for his restorations of the palace gardens at Fredensborg and Frederiksborg, as well as the King's Garden in Copenhagen.

This historic garden is part of the Natural History Museum Denmark and stands out from other city parks by being a living museum with a primary focus on research, communication, education, and nature conservation.
