The iron meteorite ‘Agpalilik’
The Agpalilik iron meteorite originates from northwest Greenland and is one of the largest iron meteorites in the world, weighing an astonishing 20 tonnes. It was discovered in 1963 by Danish researcher Vagn Fabritius Buchwald, who named it after its discovery site – the Agpalilik Peninsula, meaning "the rock where the great auk lives." Today, the meteorite stands in the museum courtyard on the steel sled that transported it to Denmark in 1967.
