New Deputy Museum Director of Collections
Ph.D. Laura Pavesi is currently the Head of Zoological Collections at the Natural History Museum Denmark, where her work focuses on the care, preservation, and management of the collections. Laura holds a scientific background with a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in zoology from Italy. During her research career, she has studied population structure and biogeography of various crustaceans. After a postdoc position in Germany, she joined the Natural History Museum of Denmark, where she combined her two main interests: research and collection management.
Laura quickly decided to dedicate her work to the collections, and for the past eight years, she has worked on the care and management of the museum’s invertebrate collections. In 2022, she became Head of Zoology and part of the museum's leadership team.
- Laura is deeply committed to supporting the museum’s strategic plans. This includes collaborating with collection staff and curators on the continued development of the collections, as well as taking on the significant task of planning and developing a new main storage facility for the collections and preparing for the relocation of the museum’s 14 million objects. Her experience in both research and collection work makes her the perfect leader for the development of the museum’s collections, and I look forward to working with her in the executive management team, says Nina Rønsted, Museum Director of the Natural History Museum Denmark.
As the new Deputy Museum Director for Collections, Laura’s work will encompass all five units within the museum’s collections: Geology and Botany, Zoology, Digital Collections and Archives, the Botanical Garden, and Conservation.
- I am very much looking forward to leading and guiding the work with the museum’s collections. I will strive to make them open and accessible to all while strengthening their management, care, digitization, and scientific use. I am therefore very excited to get started, says Laura Pavesi, who will assume her position as Deputy Museum Director for Collections on January 1.
