Find Birthday Flags in the Botanical Garden

We have placed birthday flags by the plants with a milestone birthday in the Botanical Garden and the Palm House. You can go flag hunting yourself and see if you can find all 40 flags.

This year marks 150th anniversary of the Botanical Gardens opening in 1874. For several years leading up to the opening, a lot of plants were found, purchased and cultivated to create exactly the garden that was desired. It is therefore not only the garden's 150th birthday – it is also the plants'.

Today, the Botanical Garden has a plant collection of 15,000 plants, a small part of which has been there since 1874. Back then all the plants and trees were newly planted, so it was a botanical garden with low vegetation, which over the years has grown into the wonderful mix of large trees, shrubs and open areas with flowers we know today. It takes time to become a large tree, so we continue to plant new ones, so that the garden will look as beautiful and impressive in 150 years.

About the Botanical Garden – a living museum

The Botanical Garden is an oasis in the heart of Copenhagen, which invites you to immerse yourself in the world of nature. The Botanical Garden was laid out in 1874 according to a garden plan by landscape architect H.A. Flindt. Its was then renovated in 2012 by landscape architect Jens Hendeliowitz, who, among other things, is known for the restoration of the royal gardens at Fredensborg and Frederiksborg as well as the King's Garden in Copenhagen.

This historic garden is part of the Natural History Museum Denmark and stands out from other parks in the city by serving as a living museum with research, dissemination, teaching, and nature conservation as its main objectives.
